Benzatuss
Benzatuss is an oral prescription medication designed to relieve coughs due to colds, influenza, or acute bronchitis. Benzatuss is formulated in a new, capsule dosage form to improve safety versus gel caps which have a choking hazard associated with them. Benzatuss is non-narcotic and non-sedating.
The current benzonatate products contain the following warning:
“If capsules are chewed or dissolved in the mouth, oropharyngeal anesthesia will develop rapidly. CNS stimulation may cause restlessness and tremors which may proceed to clonic convulsions followed by profound CNS depression”
If the older benzonatate products were chewed or sucked, the liquid benzonatate inside could produce temporary local anesthesia of the oral mucosa potentially causing choking. Our unique formulation will prevent this choking and overdose hazard from occurring. Benzatuss comes in an easy to swallow 200mg capsule.
Benzatuss’s active ingredient, benzonatate, is unrelated to narcotics such as codeine and hydrocodone which have significant abuse potential as well as safety issues related to overdose. Benzatuss, on the other hand, has no known abuse potential. Benzatuss begins to work within 15 to 20 minutes after administration and its effects last for approximately 8 hours.
